no words

This isn't some random Twitter asshole, by the way; that's the account for the manager of a PAC.

Fascinating that the PACer chose to highlight Burke as a notable quotable:

"Compromise

'All government — indeed, every human benefit and enjoyment, every virtue and every prudent act — is founded on compromise and barter.'

Sir Edmund Burke - Irish political philosopher, Whig politician and statesman"

Note - no mention that Burke is still the godfather of Anglo-American conservatism.

Burke may be an intellectual forefather of conservatism, but he is a nuanced enough thinker that multiple political perspectives can draw upon him without fear of hypocrisy - he did support the rights of Irish Catholics and Indians (he even led the impeachment of the East India Company's governor of Bengal). Also, the conservatism he championed, which abhorred radical change and advocated the free market, is pretty compatible neo-liberal sentiment.

That's an awful thing to say. -K.

What a hateful and frightening thing to say, especially considering the source!

I have a feeling that this election cycle is going to break a lot of friendships inside Democratic Party circles.

I already know I cannot vote again for Obama, no matter what horror is served up by the Republican Party. But I'm keeping my mouth shut around my Democratic Party friends.

I know, I should take a stand, etc. But I know that my opinion is as irrelevant as anyone else's when it comes to the trajectory of this moment.

I have a reasonably close friend who broke into tears when I told her that I couldn't get excited about Obama's reelection. God knows what her reaction would have been had I said the full truth: that I won't be voting for him or his neo-liberal ilk ever again.

Sad sad days.

Broke into tears? Maybe you should stop hanging around 15 year olds. Because I know what you mean, I can't vote for Obama either, and from the way some of my liberal friends react, you'd think they were petulant children instead of mature adults. Cooler heads prevail-I walk away. Old enough to know better, old enough not to waste my breath anymore.

But back to the topic at hand-the only acceptable response, Freddie, is "what a monster."

I can't wait to see the usual suspects appearing here and saying that it's all Greenwald's fault for being the kind of bore that no one would want to have a beer with.
