Self Parody Watch

Reihan Salam.

Reihan, I'm told, is a uniquely! heterodox! and open-minded! guy! One who constantly questions his own ideological preconceptions, or something. Indeed, he won't stop talking about it. Many others, of course, say the same, and they say that he is very bright and principled. The latter are undoubtedly true; the former? Not on your life. Reihan has so deeply internalized the notion that he is open-minded, it seems to me, that he's closed his mind to the possibility that he could fail to be open-minded in any situation. His own regard for his promiscuous ideology, strangely, prevents him from truly interrogating anyone else's opinions.

R.S. is fairly lightweight and not infrequently makes no sense at all, but at least he is amiable, a rare and precious commodity in bloggerdom, especially righty bloggerdom.

Thanks for nailing this.

On his bad days--when he's especially pretentious or writing for the sake of seeing his name on the screen--I've often been tempted to start an AS parody blog. Once I figured out the correct order for the important friend reference, obscure "cutting edge" policy idea, hip pop culture reference, I'd create a spambot to do the posting for me.
